POSITION OVERVIEW
Southland Holdings is seeking an experienced Lead Estimator Water/Wastewater to join our fast-growing team.  Lead Estimator - Water / Wastewater is responsible for cost engineering scopes of work and incorporating solutions from the engineering, procurement, construction and start up services groups to produce an estimate. Core objectives include functional understanding and interpretation of RFP documents or conceptional design application and historical past cost.  Additional responsibilities include fostering the development and growth of the estimating staff through mentoring and improved work processes to meet the needs of projects.   All estimating functions are centralized in two locations: Southland Headquarters in Grapevine, TX, and American Bridge Headquarters in Coraopolis, PA.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop complete discipline specific estimates for very large, complex industrial projects.  
Must read the specifications and develop notes for the unique or extraordinary items.  
Know how to build the project (best practices, sequence, geographical challenges etc.).  
Understand what design deliverables by discipline are required and assure that the delivery schedule is met 
Verify quantities and deliverables meet estimate required.  
Coordinate with design team to influence lowest cost of construction.  
Facilitate Cross-Discipline Communication 
Train and mentor estimators.  
Must be capable of addressing technical challenges encountered during bid preparation.  
Stay current on various trends and developments such as new equipment, means & methods, and procedures developing in the industry or specialized discipline.
Understand project past cost data for benchmarking to compare to estimates 
Site visits to learn current building methods and past cost generation.  
Communication with Senior Managers -Communicate critical issues and estimate assumptions up to the Manager as they arise to ensure everyone is on the same page for the reviews to eliminate late changes. 
Schedule and prepare for estimate reviews 
Conduct a detailed formal review of all engineered equipment, subcontract, and permanent material pricing. 
Prepare special studies or reports required by the unusual nature of some bid items or conditions.  
  


REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or similar field of study from an accredited institution and 10+ years of relevant estimating experience.
  • 10+ years of experience estimating on Water / Wastewater projects.
  • 5+ years of experience leading/ supervising estimating teams.
  • Experience with HCSS, Blue Beam, Primavera P6 and Procore, AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15-20%.
